Daring descent raises thousands for the homeless
More than £2,000 has been raised by staff at Haine & Smith opticians following their successful abseil down the Spinnaker Tower in Portsmouth on Sunday, September 5.
Hayley Cox from the Pewsey practice, Fran Wattley from the Highworth practice, Emma Stiles from the Devizes practice and Eileen Devenish from head office in Pewsey, all signed up to the event to raise money for the optician’s charity of the year, Alabaré.
Between them they have raised an amazing £2,374 so far and the total keeps growing as more donations are coming in. This money with help Alabaré with the vital work it carries with homeless and vulnerable people.
Family members and colleagues joined them on the day to cheer them on- and when two spaces suddenly became free from another group, Janet Hartwell, clerk to the trustees at Haine & Smith and Matt, Fran’s partner, jumped at the chance to get involved. They also bravely took on the 100 metre decent to the cheers of the crowd.
