Offering free sight tests for homeless in Wiltshire

We’re continuing our collaboration with regional charity Alabaré to provide help for homeless and vulnerable people across Wiltshire, supporting Alabaré’s excellent work by offering free eye examinations and spectacles to all of its residents in different Alabaré locations.

Building on the success of previous free eye care clinics held in Chippenham, Trowbridge and Salisbury, we set up a ‘pop up’ clinic at Unity House in Chippenham on Wednesday 7th of December. The clinic was a great success and we completed sight tests for 10 people and will be providing new glasses for all patients who need them, also free of charge.

Lisa Thomas, team leader at Alabare Supported Housing commented; “Many thanks for coming to Unity House again yesterday. Please can you pass on our thanks to your teams for their continued support to Unity House. The turn out yesterday was brilliant and all felt a sense of relief, as some of them felt they needed a test, but had not had the confidence to go to an optician. The fact that you came to us helped enormously and residents were pleased that any issues could be sorted with glasses.”

Anna Lewin, clinical lead optometrist at Haine & Smith, said: “At our first clinics we were a little unsure how many patients would come to see us, but our service has been really well received and we very much enjoyed returning to Unity House in Chippenham, it’s wonderful to be able to make a real difference to a patient's quality of life.”
