Ready, steady… jet! Are you prepared for summer?

The sun has finally made an appearance, and whilst dreamy days lazing on the beach still seem far on the horizon, we are here to ensure you are as organised as you can be for your globe-trotting adventures. You would not be the first person to panic at the thought of packing the essentials, long airport queues and arranging transfers once you reach your destination. Keep reading for our handy checklist on what to do ahead of travel day to make it a stress-free day.

Check passport

It is an oldie, but we all have a story to tell about a friend or family member who has had to do a mad dash to the passport office because their passport has expired. Passports need to not only be in date at time of departure, but also valid at least six months on your return journey. If you are concerned about your passport, please check here for all current information: https://www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice

Flight track

It is worth downloading the app from your holiday provider to track your flight and keep an eye on any delays. This will avoid both disappointment and/or unnecessary rushing when arriving at the airport. Don’t forget you can also use these apps to check in, and make any last minute changes to your flight booking.

Pick-up currency

Despite a society that seems to be 100% cashless, there are going to be situations where having cash abroad seems a no brainer. Impulse ice creams, tips for the waiters, or an unplanned taxi fare will make having an extra note or two in your back pocket priceless. Converting cash at home before travel can also save you on those hidden bank fees too.

Order contact lenses

For a variety of reasons, you may be wanting to switch to contact lenses over your usual frames for your holiday. Don’t delay, make sure you order in good time from your local practice, and pack a few extra pairs in your carry-on, just in case your other luggage goes AWOL at the airport.

Prescription swimming goggles

Have you thought about water sports when you are away? Snorkelling, scuba diving and swimming in the ocean all make for the perfect holiday activity. But you want to ensure you are getting the most from the experience, and make your underwater vision crystal clear. Stop by one of our practices and speak to the team about ordering a pair of prescription swimming goggles.

New sunglasses

The best part of preparing for a summer holiday is the shopping. Don’t forget your flip flops, swimwear and most importantly a new pair of sunglasses. With the new styles released this year there is no better time to invest and protect your eyes from that hot sun. We also offer prescription sunglasses and you can find our latest collection in your nearest practice: https://www.haineandsmith.co.uk/practice-finder

Sunwear for children and teenagers

Equally as important as suncream, shielding the eyes of younger members of the family is essential. Long days spent outdoors participating in multiple holiday activities can leave eyes exposed to UV radiation. Choose a pair of frames that will cover the whole eye and sit comfortably on the bridge of their nose.

Eyedrops

With the sun can come sore, itchy and dry eyes if your vision is sensitive to light. Aside from a good pair of sunglasses for maximum protection, you may want to pop some eye drops into your wash bag to avoid these symptoms, and the risk of ruining your holiday snaps. We are always here and happy to help you with any questions you may have about your eyes or eyewear before jetting off into the sunshine. Contact us today for more information.
